How to make Instant Pot Pav Bhaji

Pav Bhaji

If you love Indian food then you must try the pav bhaji recipe. It is one of the most popular dishes among Indians and also in other countries. The dish has become famous because of its simplicity and delicious taste.

This easy instant pot pav bhaji recipe is a perfect option for those who don’t have time to cook or want to save some money by making this quick meal at home.

Pav Bhaji is usually cooked using a pressure cooker and it takes less than 30 minutes to prepare. However, if you want to enjoy the authentic taste of pav bhaji, you should follow these simple steps.

Ingredients you will need:

Pav – These are dinner rolls. It is easy to find eggless rolls in an Indian grocery store in India. For pav bhaji, you can use any diner roll or burger bun. Sliced bread would also taste good.

Bhaji – This dish is made of potatoes and vegetables in a tomato base. Pav Bhaji is most commonly made with cauliflower, green peas, carrots, and bell peppers (or capsicums).

Bhaji is traditionally prepared in two steps. A pot or stovetop pressure cooker is used to boil the vegetables (potatoes, cauliflower, carrots, peas) until very soft.

In a separate pan, onion and tomato masala is prepared, then the boiled mashed vegetables are added.

Making a Pav Bhaji in a pot:

Heat butter in the instant pot while it is in sauté mode. If you want the true taste of Mumbai Bhaji, cook the bhaji in butter.

Approximately 3 minutes later, add onions. After 3 minutes, add onions, followed by bell pepper and continue to sauté for 2 more minutes. The red color of the bhaji was enhanced yet again by using red bell peppers. To the tomatoes, add the pav bhaji masala, salt, and the ground chili paste. Mix well.

Add the vegetables – potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, and green peas. Stir to combine. Switch to the pressure cook mode in the instant pot and seal the vent for 8 minutes. Let the pressure naturally release when the instant pot beeps.

Open the container and coarsely grind the ingredients with an immersion blender. Bhaji can also be mashed with a potato masher to the desired consistency.

Allow the bhaji to boil for a minute in sauté mode in the instant pot. Add the lime juice.

Bhaji is ready for serving. Add chopped onions and cilantro for garnish.
